Living in Thailand
Your first week in Thailand, without the admin scramble.
A calm order for the practical jobs that make everything else easier: your address, phone, transport, home records and first local routines.
Security and protection
Rental fraud in Thailand is not exotic. It is four or five moves, repeated, and each one has a tell.
Know these five
The changed account
A message, often from a hacked or spoofed account, redirecting your rent. The tell: the request arrives by chat and the name on the account has changed. On Paydeck you never handle your host's account, so there is nothing to redirect.
The fake listing
Photographs lifted from a real listing, a deposit requested before viewing, then silence. The tell: pressure to pay fast, and no willingness to verify identity. A verified receiver has already proved who they are.
The vanishing deposit
At move-out the deposit shrinks for damage you cannot check and cleaning nobody documented. The tell: no receipt at move-in naming the money as a deposit. Pay it with a receipt and the argument mostly ends.
The overpayment
A fake or reversed payment, followed by a request to refund the excess by transfer. The tell: any request to move money out of the platform. Refunds only ever go back to the card that paid.
The support impostor
A call or message about “suspicious activity” asking for a code or your card number, sometimes right after a real problem. The tell: urgency plus a request for a secret. We never ask for either.
The agent in the middle
Someone offering to collect rent on an owner's behalf without the owner's involvement. The tell: the owner will not appear. A property manager receiving on Paydeck is verified as a Thai-registered entity in its own name.
Almost every scam here needs one of two things from you: a payment outside the platform, or a secret you should never share. Refuse both and most of them collapse.
If you think you are being targeted
Urgency is the tool. Nothing legitimate collapses because you took an hour to check.
Your host's real status, the real amount and the real total are in Paydeck. A message is not evidence of any of them.
Include screenshots if you have them. We would rather see ten false alarms than miss the one that is real.
Speed matters more than embarrassment. A payment reported the same day has options a payment reported next month does not.

Your stay and home
A deposit is the largest early commitment of many stays. Slow the moment down, verify the home and keep a record built for move-out day.
